Renew Richmond is the newest political party on the block. Their team, from left, is John Raganit, president, Grace Tsang and Peter Mitchell, city council candidates, Alice S. Wong, school trustee candidate, and Adil Awan, city council candidate.

Renew Richmond released its platform last Tuesday and it’s main goals are to change the “culture” at Richmond City Hall and improve community safety.

“By changing how the City communicates and collects input from citizens, we can tap into the great ideas of our citizens, who often have the most brilliant solutions,” said council candidate Adil Awan, who is joined by Grace Tsang, a current school board trustee finishing her ninth year on the Richmond School Board.

“Renew is pledging to increase the frequency, duration and methods of gathering citizen input,” noted a news release.

It’s hoping to achieve “accountable and transparent governance” but provided few details as to how it can do so.

The new political slate said it will also target “well planned, citizen-centric” development with improved transportation.

Safer communities is also a goal and Renew said it will improve pedestrian lightning on pathways and improve wheelchair accessibility.

The slate wants to “re-invest and promote the Block Watch program,” which would foster more neighbourly interactions.

It will also further promote community outreach programs for crime prevention, like D.A.R.E and youth programs.

Alice S. Wong is Renew’s school board trustee candidate.

It’s note that Wong will promote resources and education opportunities to prevent bullying and cyber-bullying.

Wong will also “support physical activities, fine arts programs and extracurricular activities” in the Richmond School District.

Renew will also “work with the BC School Trustees Association and stakeholder groups to continue to advocate for more resources to meet our growing needs.”
