Former school principal Roy Sakata

I am a longtime Steveston resident and retired school administrator. I decided to run for city council for the following reasons:

-       To begin action plans for community needs unresolved by the current city council

-       To create affordable houses for purchase and rent.

-       To strengthen communication between council and citizens

-       To organize and structure citizen input forums to develop mutually agreed upon plans for Richmond.

-       To keep expenditures and tax income (residential and commercial) balanced, factoring in inflationary pressures. Exceptions would be those out of the city’s jurisdiction such as downloaded costs from senior governments.

-       To foster multicultural harmony

-       To develop a Maritime Action Research and Library Centre at Imperial Landing on the Steveston boardwalk.

-       To help strengthen intergenerational interactions.

-       To help strengthen the environment in Richmond, particularly the Fraser River.

I will promise to strive for citizen and community empowerment and avoid “group think” on council. We need to think outside the box in many instances. I will be a good listener and be responsive to citizen needs. That means being prompt with responding to phone calls and emails.
