Michael Starchuk has lived in Richmond all of his life. His great grandmother was born in Richmond in 1901. She helped to instil in him a great passion for the city in which we live. Being the eldest of five boys he learned at a young age the art of listening, understanding and compromise.

Becoming a father in September 2011 was the greatest moment in his life and over the past three years has become incredibly appreciative of the challenges that becoming a parent brings. Michael’s desire to be a positive voice as a School Trustee has only become stronger as his son has grown and will soon be joining the public school system.

Michael believes that schools are the lifeblood of the community and strong schools build stronger communities. Going to school isn’t just about getting an education, but is also about learning social skills, respect and responsibility. He believes that it is a child’s right to learn all of these skills plus many more and that it is the community’s responsibility to exhaust every avenue to deliver a quality well rounded education to everyone within the school district.
