The Editor,

Apparently the members of city council believe there are too many songbirds in Richmond. How else does one rationalize the clear-cutting of the blackberries along Railway Avenue?

Along with nutritious food, the blackberries provided nesting sites safe from crows and other predators.

Residents now see and hear traffic, and drivers see fences and backs of houses.

Henry David Thoreau wrote, "In wildness is the preservation of the world." Richmond council seems to believe the opposite.
