The Editor,
A few weeks ago, Safety Minister Vic Toews ranted and raved in parliament, about the foes of his privacy bill who were aiding and abetting child pornographers, and several other such intemperate and baseless statements!
Well, now, it appears the pigeons have come home to roost with the latest move by the "Harperites" to cut the border services personnel by about a thousand people.
The border people - those on the front line - claim that reducing the staff by such a huge number, will hamper the ability to stop guns, drugs and child pornography from crossing the border.
The government, however, claims that they have no such number in mind, despite issuing some thousand lay off notices.
In any case, laying off a thousand trained people will certainly not enhance the border security.
This surely lays to rest the "Harperites" claim to be "tough on crime," and who, now, can be accused of aiding child pornographers in their sickening pursuits?
It seems we have, in Canada, a government that has an agenda - based only on their personal beliefs - that is in the process of changing the face of Canada.
Scientific evidence is suppressed, ignored or disregarded, and this collection of loud mouth fundamentalists continue to undermine, or destroy many of the things that make Canada what it is.
Perhaps, Canadians will begin to complain when pensions are reduced (except of those in parliament), oil pipelines are stuffed down our throats, billions are spent on overpriced "fighter" aircraft, prisons are expanded without limit and our commitment to reducing pollution is scrapped surreptitiously, despite signed international agreements.
We are just beginning to see how much damage these right-wing clowns can inflict in their time in government.
