Where are you, if not here?

There are many teachers and books available that guide us on to how to live in the moment or be present. Were fortunate to have access to such wisdom from those who have experienced how to live an enlightened life and to be conscious and present.

Were fortunate to have access to such wisdom from those who have experienced how to live an enlightened life and to be conscious and present.

When we look back on the wisdom that has been shared with us from these sages, why wouldnt we listen to what they have to say to us?

For theyve experienced that living in the moment does indeed bring joy and fulfillment. All we need to do is to make a choice to live this way.

Buddha said, Do not dwell in the past. Do not dream of the future. Concentrate the mind on the present moment.

Our mind is our servant. It is there to serve us to do the practical, daily duties we have to do, but more importantly, we need to recognize that we do have a choice in where we place the activity of our mind.

If it drifts off to something in the past or the future, we have the ability to be aware and bring it back to the present moment. Where else can we be, if we are not here?

As you read this, take a moment to ask yourself, where are you right now?

The more you are aware of where your mind is, the more you can bring it back to the present moment. The more you bring it back to the present moment, the more you begin to live in the here and now.

Its that simple.

Its a practice to begin with, but once you start paying attention, it will become a natural way of being. Life is very different and certainly more fulfilling when you live in the moment.

Just as an experiment over the next week, pay attention to where your mind is wandering throughout the day. If its taking your attention out of the present moment, be aware and stop.

Bring your attention back and be fully present with what you are doing, whether its your work, washing the dishes, having a conversation, reading or driving. Simply be aware of whether you are fully present or not.
