Re: "Read before you write, Lake," Letters, July 13.

I missed the letter Branko Popazivanov got so upset about, but his letter certainly deserves comment.

Basing your opinion on long dead writers like G.K. Chesterton and H.L. Mencken is ludicrous. Those men were not scientists, nor did they pretend to be. They were newspaper editorialists with an opinion.

There was no science about over population, climate change, or wiping out a species on purpose.

These issues are now good measure. We are losing animals, birds and insects at an alarming rate due to climate change, loss of food and a burgeoning population.

Certainly you can sit on the side of the fence that says everything is dandy and if writers from a century ago are right, everything is fine.

Too bad your theory isn't being played out in Saharan countries, parts of China, Korea, Pakistan and the ever so modern Russia, Poland and Slovakia.

When we wipe out any species, we upset the balance - that scale that will begin to tilt so far one way, it cannot be brought back.

So good luck with your book. I am sure your opinions will be a bestseller.
