The Editor,

Re: "Calling all Trustees," Letters, Dec. 30.

While living in Saskatchewan, a similar thing was happening to the education system there. The schools were being drastically under-funded, and were working on a bare-bones situation.

I asked a trustee that I knew very closely, why don't they challenge the government to ask for more funding. The response I received was, "Never bite the hand that feeds you."

In other words, if you don't want to lose what you are already receiving, keep your ideas and opinions to yourself.

G. Smith (writer of letter referenced) is right in asking the trustees to do what is right fot the students. Up to now, they have been very quiet; except for the Vancouver School Board. Another group that needs to start expressing the same concerns are the principles and the vice-principles.

They have their own union and can explain more clearly than anyone what is happening to the education system in B.C.; yet they remain completely silent.

I am very proud of our teachers for taking a stand against this government. It is now time for our trustees and the other groups involved to stand up for what is important to our students.
