The city is updating its OCP, which will guide future growth and development in Richmond. A public survey on the OCP closes this Sunday.

Dear Editor,

Richmond residents have the opportunity to shape our city's future and let our elected representatives know what the top priorities are in our neighbourhoods.

In a time where residents feel more disconnected from city hall, younger people can't afford a future home here, and public engagement is often rallied around saying no to projects, this represents an incredible opportunity for us to speak up and let the city know about our wants, needs and dreams for our home.

Richmond's Official Community Plan (OCP) is currently being updated to reflect the growth and priorities of our city.

The review is in Phase Two with strategic developments being proposed that reflect four main concerns raised in Phase One:

        - Housing affordability;
        - Climate mitigation and adaptation;
        - Equitable communities; and
        - Environmental protection and enhancement.

As part of the OCP update, Richmond residents can provide feedback through a survey on the LetsTalkRichmond.ca engagement website. The online form provides ample opportunity to write in comments and suggestions while ranking priorities.

It takes five to 10 minutes to complete and the survey closes this Sunday, July 20. Residents can also ask staff about the process and plan on the website, while viewing previous questions and answers.

It isn't often that we get to impact the long-term plans and shape of our city.

Do you want more access to parks and greenways in your neighbourhood? Are you a big fan of walkable communities with easy access to groceries, child care and community amenities? Do you think transit-oriented neighbourhoods are key to meeting climate goals and solving our affordable housing crisis?

For the next few days we have the opportunity to dream big for our community while directly engaging with city hall.

So, speak up and let's build a bright future for Richmond together!
