Shots too close to home

There’s nothing more unsettling than a drive-by shooting less than 100 metres away from your home.

I can now tell you that firsthand, as last Monday that’s a situation that faced not only my wife and I, but also our neighbours in the 3000 block of Williams Road.

First, I’d like to commend the first responders on scene, who made us feel comfortable as they investigated this dangerous incident. But that said, it made me think about how close to home this really was.  A stray bullet, a neighbour in the wrong place at a wrong time, and this storyline gets very different.

This incident, and others like it, are a stark reminder we need to be vigilant to combat the “bad elements” in our city. As few and far between as they may seem, they pose real risks to our community.
