Scramble crossing aptly named

The Editor,

I have just arrived home after going into Steveston.

Arriving at the crossing at the end of No. 1 Road, I wanted to turn left onto Moncton. When I got a green light, I had to wait for pedestrians who also had a walking man, allowing them to cross Moncton from north to south.

The same thing happened coming back in the opposite direction - pedestrians were walking across No. 1 Road while I waited to turn right.

I thought the whole idea of a Scramble Crossing was to separate pedestrians and cars: meaning, cars wait while pedestrians cross and pedestrians wait while cars cross.

City hall obviously doesn't understand what these types of crossings are about.

Oh, and one other thing, traffic and pedestrians moved much more efficiently when it was a four way stop - no long lineups as happens now. So there goes another bunch of taxpayers' dollars to provide a photo opportunity for the city fathers.
