Saba loop provided safety

I agree with some of Marion Smiths comments. I have been riding Richmond buses since 1971 and this is the best and most reliable service weve ever had.

From 1971 to 2000, transit service and bus stops were pathetic. While bus loops are a good idea, for safety reasons they are only ideal if there are food services on site.

It is most important for the commuter, particularly an adolescent/female/traveling alone/at night to feel safe. Saba Road offers overhead shelter and safety with a pizza establishment open late that one can patronize instead of having to stand on the street while waiting for your bus which might be spaced out every 15, 20 or 30 minutes during off-peak periods.

The bus loop at the north Vancouver Sea Bus terminal and the bus loop at Metrotown also offer shelter and security by having eating facilities at the site.

Bridgeport and Marine Drive bus loops have these facilities too far away from the buses for convenience.

As for the noise of buses on Saba Road, how many of these residents ride a bus, or did they choose the location for the convenience of being on the main city street and Canada Line?

I, as well as many other residents, live at the intersection of a main artery where the local bus and often training buses need to stop at the main road. Their tires often squeal turning the corner.

The Saba Road residents are not the only ones putting up with noise of buses, or all other city traffic for that matter, but after a while, one gets used to it and there is often a sacrifice for convenience.

With the narrow lanes on No. 3 Road, it is better that traffic moves slower rather than faster, as many drivers neglect the posted speed limit and faster moving traffic in this area would be an accident waiting to happen.

As far as a city hall planner getting the big picture for the perfect bus routes and loops, this can only happen if he/she has the experience of riding the buses.
