Richmond kids review summer reading books

"I love it because it is really funny, like the title!" Eshaan, 8

More than 4,000 children are participating in Richmond Public Library’s Kids’ Summer Reading Club this year.

This free program encourages children to read throughout the summer, helping to maintain or even improve their reading skills. Kids can track their reading and collect stickers.

It’s not too late to sign up for the Summer Reading Club. Kids can visit any Richmond Public Library branch to pick up a reading booklet.

For more details, visit the library’s website or call the library at 604-231-6412.

Kids’ book reviews

As part of Summer Reading Club each year, the library encourages children to let them know what they think of the books they are reading by writing book reviews, and several reviews are chosen to be published in the Richmond News throughout the summer.

Here is a selection of reviews the library has received.

George and Martha — One More Time

Author: James Marshall

Reviewed by: Samaiyah Sahota, 7

Summary: This book is about George and Martha going to the movie theatre to watch a scary movie. Martha asked George why are you scared and sitting under the seat? George lied and said I’m finding my glasses. But really he was very afraid.

Review: I like this book because it makes me laugh when the author makes fun of the characters. I think it has good comedy.

Magic Tree House

Author: Mary Pope Osborne

Reviewed by: Julie, 8

Summary: Jack and Annie have many different adventures in the magic tree house and the owner of it is Morgan Le Fay. She is an enchantress and a magic librarian.

Review: I like this book because it gives me lots of imagination and creativity. And it is a funny mystery book which I love the most. And it also includes real facts that Jack writes in his notebook!

The image I get when I read these is very artistic and humorous. And the creativity helps me include a lot of background items that are relating to the story!!

AstroNuts

Author: Jon Scieska & Steven Weinberg

Reviewed by: Eshaan, 8

Summary: In NNASA (NotNASA) GWFL (George Washington Forehead Laboratory), four marvelous robots check different planets if it is a Goldilocks planet when earth’s climate goes wrong.

Review: I don’t like it. I love it!

I love it because it is really funny, like the title! Instead of Astronauts, it’s AstroNuts, get it, nuts? Also the names of the mountains: GWFL, TJNR, TRMGS, & ALBV.

The 52-Story Treehouse

Author: Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton

Reviewed by: Aaron, 11

Summary: This book is about fun and adventure.

Review: I like this book, because this book shows a lot of creativity, like when the caterpillar ate bulldozers and steamrollers. It also shows lots of chaos because vegetables were boiling humans in soup, which in my case it’s vice versa.
