The Editor,
A recent announcement was made that one of the three deputy fire chiefs here in Richmond was leaving to take another postition elsewhere.
Applications will be called to replace this person at a handsome salary of some $100,000-plus annually.
Why? Do we need three employees in this position?
In proper restraint mode, it is to be hoped that at least one of the city councillors has thought about this and asked this question.
There are a number of other senior positions within this department, as well as a number of fire captains. We learn daily that both the federal and provincial governments are endeavouring to cut back on costs in these tight financial times.
We should expect Richmond's city council to do no less - certainly in the interests of us - the Richmond taxpayer.
