Once again the arrogance of Onni Developments rears its ugly head.
Tuesday evening, just after 7 p.m., I was out for a regular walk along the boardwalk from east of Railway to Steveston and encountered not only all the lights out from east of the Phoenix Pond all the way to No. 1 Road, but all the lamp standards missing as well.
On the north side of the property, I encountered two men stringing electrical cords from the roadway across the project to the boardwalk so as to set up portable construction lights of the type one would use around their residence.
One of the men stated that the issue was caused when the city placed the lamp standards on "his property" and so it was the city's fault that they had to be removed.
Does that mean that there is no easement other than for the boardwalk and Onni will be building right up to the path boundary?
Apart from the fact the entire enterprise is unsafe from an electrical point, the walk remains unsafe with a stopgap measure.
The lights are placed at eye level, are so bright when one approaches as to be blinding and then there is abject darkness once they are passed.
The entire walkway is rendered unsafe. It appears that there will be no lighting of the walkway over the pond with this asinine system.
Onni, the entity we love to hate for their arrogance, is again justified in its own mind because of their arrogance.
