Other options are possible

The Editor,

On July 1 at the Salmon Festival, a group of concerned citizens got together to collect signatures against the Vancouver Airport Fuel Facilities' proposal to set up an 80-million litre jet fuel tank farm in Richmond.

Along with this proposal, we would be subjected to a fuel pipeline through residential areas as well as the continuous presence of supertankers on the Fraser River, bringing in the fuel to the tank farm.

Many people have become aware of the inherent dangers in a plan of this nature -- the threat of fire, earthquake and fuel spillage are each huge concerns, and we thank the many people who took the time to talk to us and to sign the petition.

We recognize that YVR may need more fuel in the future. But we believe a more responsible option would be a pipeline from Cherry Point refinery directly to YVR. We do not need an 80-million litre tank farm in Richmond, and we certainly do not need a constant flow of supertanker traffic just off the banks of the Richmond dyke.

Please see our website vaporbc.com for more information on this subject from unpaid, volunteer concerned citizens.
