Letters: Steveston Village needs a new 'angle'

angled parking

Dear Editor,

I commend the city for their actions related to COVID-19, but I don’t understand the new parking and traffic flow in Steveston. I agree that the village traffic should be one way, but I think the parking should be angle parking on both sides of the street. This would provide at least twice the parking.

We could adjust the angle parking to ensure social distancing by keeping it on one side of the street until the pandemic is no longer an issue. This would provide more parking and a better flow.

While we’re at it, can we get rid of the ridiculous crosswalk at No. 1 Road and Moncton? While this may be a great idea in Tokyo (where they see 2,500 people crossing per minute) here in Steveston we just don’t need it. It just ends up with all cars stopped while one person crosses using the “scramble” crosswalk.
