Dear Editor,

Re: “MP: Climate change solution bigger than Richmond,”  Letters, Jan. 23.

MP Kenny Chiu professes great concern for the climate but will not support the carbon tax. Instead, he proposes higher dIkes. That is a rescue plan, not an environmental policy.

Twice he states the carbon tax doesn’t reduce emissions, but he provides no evidence. No wonder, because it is not true.

B.C. introduced the carbon tax in 2008, the first in Canada. Since then, total B.C. carbon emissions are one per cent lower than 10 years earlier, but they would have been five — 15 per cent greater without the carbon tax.

Chiu should remember more people voted against him than for him, that he should represent his constituents, not his party.
