Letter: Vandalism of Richmond church not funny

Dear Editor, Re: “Prank on church sign elicits laughs,” News, April 25. I enjoy reading the Richmond News every week and think the stories are interesting and relevant.

Dear Editor,

Re: “Prank on church sign elicits laughs,” News, April 25.

I enjoy reading the Richmond News every week and think the stories are interesting and relevant. However, this past week I was a little taken aback by one of the articles entitled “Pranked Richmond church sign elicits laughs.”

I understand that the first response may be to laugh at this prank, but at the same time, I don’t think we should be condoning it. Not taking this matter seriously sets a precedent for the way other people can treat churches and religious organizations in Richmond.

Though the prank appeared harmless, it was insensitive, especially during a holy weekend for people of this religion. I only hope that there will be no more actions like this showing flippant vandalism, and that all of us would be more careful to make light of something that may have stung a person’s belief.
