Letter: Traffic safety and danger dogs should top election agenda in Richmond

Dear Editor,

Just finished reading Richmond News and a couple of things stood out.

One, after reading all the civic election candidates’ comments, only one, Andy Chiang, raised the issue of “vehicle and traffic safety.”

There is an epidemic of ignorant, irresponsible drivers racing through our residential areas, which most candidates don’t seem to think is an important safety issue for their potential constituents.

Two, the story regarding two off-leash pit bulls attacking two horses bearing riders: The current council and prior councils continue to have a laissez faire attitude regarding off-leash dogs until they are forced to get involved because someone has been badly injured. It is far past due that council instruct bylaw enforcement to get serious about this problem instead of focusing on parking tickets.
