Richmond’s new RCMP Supt. Will Ng assumes his post next month.

Dear Editor,

Re: “Rolling stop in Richmond not worth a ticket,” Letters, Feb. 21.

Road safety is one of our top priorities in Richmond. Enforcement and education go hand in hand.

I have full confidence in every one of our officers and affirm that they are duly qualified in this undertaking. I also wish to verify, for the record, that there are no quotas for violation tickets.  Should anyone feel that they have been issued a violation ticket without merit or just cause, our justice system permits a process whereby you may dispute the violation ticket.

During our recent Richmond RCMP Community Consultation meetings, I had the privilege of listening to the voices of many Richmond residents and their concerns. It was made abundantly clear that road and pedestrian safety were weighing heavy on the hearts and minds of everyone present and is a major concern for our community.

If a traffic violation occurs directly in front of one of our officers, I would expect that they would address it appropriately and professionally.

Supt. Will Ng

Officer in Charge
