A Richmond News reader has had a very bad experience dealing with shingles

Dear Editor,

To all your readers, you do not want this. I’m referring to shingles, with which I became ill several months ago.

I was not vaccinated, reasoning “I’m a healthy person and not many people get this”. Wrong, I now know, on the second count.

It was in my right eye, face and scalp and I was quite ill at first. After a course of medication and weeks of antiviral eye drops, I felt better but am left with burning and itching in the area - enough to drive one crazy - only alleviated by medication four times a day and often during the night.

I also need to use eye drops regularly in the affected eye.

A neighbour still has these symptoms 10 years later. you do not want shingles. Please do get vaccinated.
