Letters: Minoru parking for seniors awkward

A senior Richmond News reader wants safer parking options at the Minoru Seniors Centre.

Dear Editor,

As an 80-year-old senior, I’d like to commend Richmond Leisure Services, along with the community centres, on out-trips for over 55s, but I wish to comment on the parking at Minoru Seniors Centre.

The last time I participated in a trip from there, I was told I had to move my car from the parking lot to one situated above the library.

This involved moving my car to the latter area, (with nobody around) and then coming down the stairs to ground level.

Two or three homeless people were loitering on the stairs, their clothes and belongings scattered around.

I felt very insecure and have twice mentioned this to Minoru Centre, also to the City of Richmond — no answer or solution!

Surely we could be issued with a parking decal stating we’re on an out-trip for several hours?

This resulted in my cancelling a trip to “The Sound of Music” last fall as I didn’t want to go through all that in the dark.

I deserve better treatment!
