Dear Editor,

Re: “Please clean up bike lanes after garbage day,” Letters, Richmond-News.com.

In agreement with Anne Macdonald, all too often as a year-round cyclist I find myself either choosing the sidewalk or car lane to avoid dangerous obstacles and broken glass in lanes.

The plastic safety poles will only make it more difficult to keep lanes clean and for cyclists to pass each other for that matter as now, one needs to pass from the car lane then return into the bike lane by zig zagging ourselves into it or the sidewalk again.

Sound bike lane investment by cities always yield better-than-expected results.

It’s inevitable, since their job is to reduce travel stress by adding an additional option to share the already-built pavement.
