Letter: Wrap up your scraps

Food scraps will be banned from landfills in Metro Vancouver starting in 2015. Penalties will apply to collectors with contaminated garbage.

Dear Editor,

It would be greatly appreciated if residents would use newspaper or flyers to securely wrap their food scraps before tossing them into the green bin.

I regularly find animals bones, lobster claws, chunks of bread and similar garbage in the yard and even in the gutter, dropped off by crows and rats.

Today, in front of my house, the boys emptying the green bins left a pile that included many bones and a fish head.

I had to sweep the lot up, wrap and bin it before the scavengers discovered the feast.
