Dear Sir/Madam;
I wonder why no compromise has been promoted with regards to mail deliver? The previous federal government embarked on a plan to do away with home delivery of mail. The present Liberal government stopped that plan but has frozen the situation. If you now get home delivery you will continue to do so. If you lost home delivery, well, it is not coming back.
Delivery of mail is a monopoly. By law, only the post office can deliver mail. The nature of mail has changed and the volume has decreased. The mail delivery system needs to reduce its costs. Canadian winters are legendary. The demographics of our population is that we have a fast growing number of seniors who have difficulty in bad weather seeking out their mail pick up spot.
My compromise is that we continue with home delivery — but only on a twice weekly basis. There is very little mail that cannot be delayed one or two days. If mail must move fast, there is priority post to do that function.
I am in favour of reducing costs in a changing system. I wonder why the economics of two day a week delivery has not been discussed?
