Letter: Who do Richmond's MLAs really serve?

Linda Reid, Teresa Wat and John Yap. Richmond MLAs

Dear Editor,

I understand elected City of Richmond officials, representing city residents, oppose the Massey Tunnel Replacement Project.

I understand Metro Vancouver elected officials oppose it, with the exception of Delta representatives.

Meanwhile, the three re-elected Liberal MLAs, representing Richmond, support the bridge project, despite community concerns and wishes.

The position of the newly elected MLA is unknown.

Do the Richmond MLAs have a fiduciary duty of care to represent their constituents’ wishes or the wishes of the port authority?

Do proponents of the bridge rely on fake news (cost, future ship’s draft, coal shipments, etc.)?

Unlike the Port Mann and Alex Fraser bridges, it will not be necessary to shut down a tunnel for ice/snow bombs.

The current status does not demonstrate cause for trusting elected provincial representatives.

 Explanations please!

 Ken McLennan

Richmond

* Editor’s note: Richmond’s newest MLA, Jas Johal, stated throughout the recent campaign that he is in favour of the Massey Tunnel Replacement Project.
