Letter: Where was the sold-out crowd?

Richmond is lucky to have an exceptionally talented musical group in the Richmond Orchestra and Chorus, but where is the audience to appreciate it? File photo

Dear Editor,

On Saturday night we had the privilege, again, of hearing a superb performance by the Richmond Orchestra and Chorus.

It included Edward Elgar’s poignant Variation IXNimrod, setting the tone for the Remembrance Day; a dazzling performance by violinist Nancy DiNovo of Korngold’s Violin Concerto; and an unforgettable delivery of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem based on the poetry of Whitman and Biblical writers.

This last piece featured not only the entire symphony and chorus, but stunning virtuoso displays by soprano Tabitha Brasso-Ernst and baritone Peter Monaghan.

All of this was conducted with the inspiring energy and talent of James Malmberg.

We loved it.

But, where was the overflow audience such music deserves? Where was the lineup for this creative, demanding choice of music?

Will you be there for the rollicking Christmas concert, or for the awe-inspiring Rising Stars performance in February, featuring very young musicians in jaw-dropping performances?

Will you be there for the classic pieces scheduled for April and the familiar, much loved “galaxy” music of John Williams in June?

Richmond is fortunate to have a fine local symphony and chorus — check it out!
