Dear Editor;
Re: “Mayors say ‘Yes’ vote critical to local economy,” News, Feb. 27.
I was pleased to read Mayor Brodie’s comments that the money raised by the 0.5 per cent increase in the PST to support Translink “…will be audited annually at arms length” and “It’s absolutely critical to have a group that will monitor the money. …That’s what gives me confidence.”
It is ironic that Mayor Brodie doesn’t feel it is either necessary nor critical to have such an arm’s length audit of the City of Richmond’s finances. Having an external audit of city spending would go a long way to increasing my confidence that my tax dollars are being spent prudently.
