Dear Editor,
The forest fires in our province this past fire season were unparalleled. Whether or not we were personally evacuated from the onslaught, we heard news reports that everything possible was being done to save homes.
But there was never news about the homes of B.C.’s magnificent wildlife — the bears’ dens, the squirrels’ tree homes, the birds’ nests, the homes of animals who lived underground. Not one word.
All the forest dwellers must have been terrified as they fled. It will be years before all those homes are habitable.
Humans are almost back to normal, but what about our wildlife? Are we in awe of the animals that had the smarts to survive?
No, we are issuing licences to brave American and local hunters to kill them, not for meat, but for pleasure.
Isn’t there something wrong with this picture?
