For several weeks now there has been a discussion in the newspaper whether or not to re-name the No. 2 Rd. Bridge.
I would like to remind everyone that there was a public process in the very early 1990s to name the newly built structure.
There were numerous suggestions at the time (mine was Dover Crossing), but the overwhelming majority of people voted for No. 2 Rd. Bridge.
Unimaginative, maybe, but it was a majority vote.
I attended the naming ceremony under Mayor Greg Halsey Brandt, and still own a commemorative coffee mug from this event with the City of Richmond’s logo and a depiction of the bridge on it.
The people have spoken. Case closed. Let it be.
