Letter: Visitors to Richmond turned off by smell

Dear Editor,

I have had the pleasure of visiting friends in Richmond frequently over the past 20 years.

My husband and I drive or fly in from Portland, Oregon to visit friends, walk the dyke along the Fraser River, explore your growing international community and wild places of this beautiful Island by Nature.

This visit, I was dismayed to encounter a stench in the air that was impossible to escape.

My friends tell me a Metro Vancouver contract with the alleged creator of this vile perfume, Harvest Power, may be in effect for four more years.

Clearly, the members of Metro Vancouver do not live in this community and do not care about the quality of life here. Nor do they care about the tourism industry in Richmond or the village of Steveston.

How sad that this wonderful community has to endure this, day after day.

As a visitor, I can go back home and wash the garbage smell out of my clothing.

How sad that I can no longer recommend this area as a vacation destination to family and friends south of the border as long as that smell is in your air.
