Letter: Thank Evan for Dunfee

Dear Editor, I was thinking about the day Richmond’s own Evan Dunfee had in Rio last week and I think we, as his home town, should do something special for him. He is a terrific young man and very humble.

Richmond's Evan Dunfee shows what sportsmanship is all about after posing with Japanese race-walker Hirooki Arai. Dunfee has been promoted to the bronze medal position from fourth, after a race referee adjudged Arai had fouled the Richmond athlete near the end of the 50K race. A Japanese appeal was later upheld and Arai was reinstated to third place.

Dear Editor,

I was thinking about the day Richmond’s own Evan Dunfee had in Rio last week and I think we, as his home town, should do something special for him.

He is a terrific young man and very humble. I think Mayor Malcolm Brodie could do something to help relieve the sting of losing an Olympic bronze medal.

Maybe make him a thank-you bronze medal and present it to him as our own Canadian athlete we are so proud of — no matter what.

There must be a way to say thank you from Richmond, B.C. and Canada.

Angus Macdonald
