Letter: Taxes up in Richmond, but services down

Dear Editor, As a home owner in Richmond since the 1970s, I have seen my taxes go up every year while the city services go down.
Taxes
One flat tax rate is applied to all residential properties and taxes are based on property values. If your property rises in value above the average rate, you will pay a greater portion of taxes. Conversely, you will pay a less proportional amount of taxes if the change in your land value is below the average rate of change.

Dear Editor,

As a home owner in Richmond since the 1970s, I have seen my taxes go up every year while the city services go down.

A great deal of money was spent along the Railway corridor to accommodate bikers and walkers, but the three-foot high grass and weeds surrounding it are a mess. The park/schoolyard behind us is mowed, but only once this year have the edges and corners been cut down.

I asked a City employee why and he said they (the City) are behind... Sure are, but not come tax time. Use our tax money to hire enough people to keep up. Forget the pretty flowers in the medians and mow the parks and public places instead.
