Dear Editor,

On Nov. 9, at approximately 7:30 a.m., I was riding my scooter eastbound in the right lane on Granville Avenue through a green light at No. 3 Road.

While I was travelling at a speed of 50 km/h, a light-coloured SUV slowly turned on to Granville Avenue from a driveway in front of me. The driver did not shoulder-check, cutting me off. This failure to yield caused a situation where my options were to either crash into their vehicle, or brake hard to avoid hitting it.

I braked to avoid a collision.

This caused the front wheel of my scooter to skid, sending it and me hurtling in opposite directions across the pavement.

Momentum threw me onto the ground, bouncing off my right hip, slowly skidding to a stop in the left lane.

Laying on the pavement, I was fortunate there was no traffic: The outcome would have been worse had a car been behind me. I remember bracing for an impact that thankfully never happened.

Coming to a stop, an eternity seemed to pass. After some time, Good Samaritans came to my aid. Then first responders arrived, and I lived to tell of this event.

To the Good Samaritans and first responders involved, please accept my sincerest thank you for your assistance.

To the SUV driver who apparently missed the yield/shoulder check portion of their driving test, thanks for not killing me.
