Dear Editor,

Re: “School board joins anti-pot push,” News, Nov. 15.

According to school trustee Jonathan Ho: “On the one hand, we ask the students to stay away from drugs including marijuana because it’s harmful to their health and future; on the other hand, it is legalized. Then what is the message to students?”

The message that is sent is the government has admitted it made a mistake when it entered marijuana into the Opium Act and is now correcting that mistake.

What’s surprising to me is Jonathan Ho has not recognized the reason Canada made pot illegal in the first place.

The law against marijuana use was based on a racist theory put forth by Emily Murphy, who believed that the Chinese (and other races) were part of an international conspiracy to corrupt the “purity” of the white race.
