Dear Editor
We’re losing our Safeway store at the Broadmoor shopping centre. It isn’t the only Safeway store being closed in Richmond, but it’s our store and has been a part of our community; serving it since 1964.
When we first heard about the closure, nothing changed that much. Everything was still available with only a few gaps here and there.
It’s much different now. There are large areas of empty shelves. Some of our favourite things are no longer there and we know they won’t be reordered and restocked.
The only thing that hasn’t changed is the professionalism of the people working there. We’re still greeted with a smile, followed by the excellent service we’ve come to know and enjoy.
These are the people who have made the store a piece of the fabric that makes a successful, thriving and vibrant community. There’s a rip in that wonderful fabric now and although we’ll all move on, it’ll never be the same.
At this point, some employees are probably facing an uncertain and unsettling future. To all of them, we wish you the very best wherever you go and whatever you do. You will be missed.
