Letter: Richmond students' cookie gift warms the heart and mind

Dear Editor, Re: “Students connect to neighbours,” Edcom, June 14.

Longtime resident Bev Dickinson was delighted to have Thompson elementary Kindergarten and Grade 1 students visit her home nearby Terra Nova as part of a neighbourhood outreach campaign. Dickinson raised children who attended Thompson, however she had lost touch with the school over the years and was touched by the special card and homemade cookies delivered by the students. Dear Editor,

Re: “Students connect to neighbours,” Edcom, June 14.

I, too, am a longtime resident in the Thompson school area and was also a lucky recipient of a knock at my door by two young men and their mothers delivering cookies with a lovely card stating they liked being my neighbour (very serendipitous, since my two sons attended Thompson school, graduating 16 and 20 years ago).

I’d like to thank the boys and their mothers again for the kind gesture and delicious cookies. I take my hat off to the teachers and the school staff for their initiative in this project. I feel Mr. Rogers’ teachings live on.

And thanks finally to the Richmond News for keeping us so well informed about the events in our community and for including the positive happenings.
