Dear Editor,
Re: “Movable wall may save sport,” News, April 20.
Just as a camel is a horse put together by a committee, this attempt to satisfy all court users, only proves that the “Camel Committee” is still in charge at city hall.
It doesn’t take much foresight to predict that when the racquetball, handball and volleyball players need two courts, it will be at exactly the same time that the squash players need two courts.
What are they all to do, arm wrestle for who gets to move the wall?
To suggest that this is some wonderful idea from the racquetball players to solve this dilemma is disingenuous and is similar to claiming that the drowning man had a fantastic idea by reaching for the anchor.
Here is an idea, why doesn’t the committee approach the River Club and try to come to some arrangement whereby they will support the cost of the squash players being allowed to use their courts on a limited basis, which could be a benefit to all concerned.
I understand there are four squash courts at that club.
It is time that city hall cease disrupting some of Richmond’s most loyal citizens, who only want to play and have fun; otherwise Mayor Brodie must get involved.
