Dear Editor,
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Canadian government must be commended for opening Canada’s doors to 25,000 Syrian refugees.
This is a very desirable, noble and compassionate gesture to help those in need. Though the time line is bit tight yet, with all of the resources at the disposal of the government, it shouldn’t be that much of a problem.
Richmond is a very caring, inclusive and compassionate community. It is likely that we will be getting quite a few of the Syrian refugees.
In this context, it may be appropriate to mention that Richmond Multicultural Community Services (RMCS) has been serving this community in the area of settlement and integration of newcomers and refugees for more than 30 years.
As a matter of fact, RMCS celebrated its 30th anniversary last week.
This non-profit community based organization is well experienced and equipped to help new comers and refugees settle in this community.
Hopefully, RMCS will get an opportunity to be an active participant in this process.
