Re: “Dang warns about going ‘Donald Trump,” News, June 15.
Despite Coun. Derek Dang’s attempt to stifle free speech in Richmond, he needs to understand that if some of us want to “Go Donald Trump,” that is exactly what we could do, although I do not know anyone, myself included, who would choose this route; but it is open to anybody.
What is shocking about this Chinese-only hiring sign is that Dang would take the apologist’s attitude and try to deflect blame to the rest of Richmond, as he feels it is a complex issue that needs handling without insulting either side.
We can imagine the reaction if someone put up an English-only sign that said “Chinese need not apply.”
This is what the Chinese-only sign is saying to the rest of Richmond, but Dang doesn’t see it.
Yet, he would be the first with the howls of protest, claims of racism and demands for apologies.
Is it any wonder that the divisions between the Chinese community in Richmond and the rest of us is widening and hardening?
