Re: “River otters found in city digs,” News, Jan. 11.
I hate to burst Hugh Griffith’s bubble, but he was definitely NOT among the first to discover river otters in Garden City Park.
Otters have been coming and going into the pond for at least a couple of years now.
They hang out for a while, eat a bunch of fish, and probably leave once they’ve depleted the supply.
I’ve seen as many as five at one time, including a baby.
They were around a lot during the holidays, but I haven’t personally seen them since the beginning of January.
I would imagine that they use the culverts to get around.
At least, I’ve never seen them walking down the street...
