Letter: No more mosquitos at Terra Nova

Dear Editor, I was born and have lived all of my life in Richmond’s Terra Nova neighbourhood. Over that time, I have observed the changes in Terra Nova. I watched people move in and out of houses.

Dear Editor,

I was born and have lived all of my life in Richmond’s Terra Nova neighbourhood.

Over that time, I have observed the changes in Terra Nova.

I watched people move in and out of houses. I witnessed the construction of the Terra Nova Adventure Park, the Terra Nova Sharing Garden, and the trails that lead to the hidden beauties of Terra Nova Park.

Most importantly, I have seen the increase in the numbers of people coming to the dyke to enjoy the sunset every evening.

In my teenage years, my feelings for the neighbourhood blossomed into pride, as I marvelled how Terra Nova evolved into a place where nature and people flourish alike, where nature could be blended into a harmonious, green neighbourhood. Terra Nova has proved to be a spectacular and peaceful ecosystem.

One significant change, however, is the mosquitoes that come along with the increase of people.

These mosquitoes can stubbornly pursue a person, whether cycling or running along the dyke.

This has been occurring over the past few summers.

However, to my delight, the mosquitoes have become less aggressive this summer.

I am thankful for those in the city hall’s mosquito control program who took measures to monitor and treat the mosquito breeding sites at the dyke.
