Dear Editor,
In my travels throughout the world, I have come to realize that every city/town has its problems.
Some are rooted in history, some geographic and others simply a result of really poor planning.
On Tuesday, Dec. 26, my wife and I discovered a classic example of the latter when attempting to depart Vancouver.
It took us 30 minutes to drive from Marine Drive and Granville Street to the cut-off to the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet mall, en route to the Vancouver International Airport — about two kilometres.
It, along with the adjoining roads, were literally parking lots.
In researching the issue I found it amusing to read about Richmond’s concern about the potential impact an additional runway would have on Richmond, yet it would appear that little concern was given to the impact of a major retail complex on the key travel facility serving not just the Lower Mainland, but B.C./Western Canada.
Yes, we made our flight — just. But I’m sure many didn’t, due to traffic congestion.
Not impressed at all.
