Letter: May God guide the Massey crossing

Dear Editor, What insanity.

A rendering of the BC Hydro power lines across the Fraser River into Richmond

Dear Editor,

What insanity. Not only is the provincial government going to remove the George Massey Tunnel so they can dredge the Lower Fraser River deeper to industrialize it, but they are removing the high voltage transmission lines that are presently going under the river in the George Massey Tunnel, and are going to build them overhead, right alongside the new high level bridge, at great additional cost and environmental tragedy.

It is obvious they don’t give a damn about bird kill or harm to the people next to or underneath them. Nor the fact they are building right in the middle of what is considered by the rest of the world as the last remaining “Wetland of International Significance,” and ecological importance for migratory birds and fish species and diverse habitats that support a multitude of species.

Must we destroy everything that supports the very lifeline of every living thing, before we realize our mistakes?

Keep the George Massey Tunnel, build a crossing that saves the ecology and provides for the movement of people not just for more motor vehicles and the industrialization of the Lower Fraser River.

May God guide those to do what is right to save our very existence.

Douglas George Massey
