Amanda Bostik and her daughter Gemma celebrate the opening of a fully accessible playpark at McNeely elementary. Celebration has since turned to frustration as she fights to have Gemma’s name inscribed at the park.

Dear Editor,

This month marks the one-year anniversary since the opening of the accessible playground located behind King George Park at Kathleen McNeely elementary.

This was a four-year project inspired by my little girl Gemma, who was born with a rare neuromuscular condition and is wheelchair-bound.

The goal was to provide an inclusive playground for everyone to be included together in play, regardless of ability.

Residents of Richmond really pulled together to see this project come to fruition, and I am truly grateful to everyone who helped make this dream a reality.

I have so many people to thank that I didn’t fully get a chance to do so.

Thank you to everyone, I am truly appreciative and proud that we have created “Play for All.”
