David MacNab says he bought his house in 2004, partly because of the eagle’s nest, which recently had to be removed from the 90-feet tree in his backyard.

Dear Editor,

Re: “Homeowner chokes up over loss of eagles,” News, Nov. 30.

My New Year’s Resolution: Talk to my neighbours more.

I never want to admit to a mistake. But, now I must admit to a biggie in neighbourhood relations (or should I say my lack of relations).

I raised a concern about cutting down a tree in my neighbourhood with an eagles nest. I wrote to this newspaper, to the City of Richmond and the provincial government. I shared my concerns with a Facebook group. (I must thank the Richmond News who covered the story with balance and fairness.)

Yes, I had some misleading information, but the simple solution would have been to first talk to my neighbour, the owner of the property.

I didn’t and my concerns led to some unfair comments on Facebook. Recently, I apologized to my neighbour, but too little, too late.

My New Year’s resolution:  Before I “shoot from the lip” about a local concern, at least have the gumption to talk to my neighbour!
