Dear Editor,
I have lived in Richmond since 1970. River Road used to be my “go to road” and small piece of paradise.
I loved the fact it wasn’t used by a huge number of people, and when I lived on No. 1 Road for 11 years, it was my primary road for going to work, to Costco, to the airport etc.
I just do not understand how the City of Richmond can ruin a wonderful road and turn it into an obstacle course. The turn from Gilbert Road onto River Road is so sharp both going to River Road and also coming back. Why?
Once upon a time, it was an enjoyable, peaceful drive. Now, it is so stressful as you have to know where to turn off and where to join up. How people get to their destinations now is bewildering.
Just like the traffic light just before the Dinsmore Bridge. Why?
It is all total frustration for me these days from a road that used to give me a peaceful, enjoyable ride, to almost avoiding it all together.
Will the city ever return it to the “original River Road” or is there more stressful changes to come? Do other long time Richmond residents feel the same, or am I just venting for no good reason?
P. Barkley
