Letter: Hope Olympic trip was worth it

Dear Editor,

I really enjoyed watching the Olympics in Rio on TV; I think Canada did very well.

I am now looking forward to the report from the folks that went to Rio representing Richmond City Hall and the Oval.

There will no longer be a need for security, so they will want to report on their accomplishments.

I would like to know, who went, with whom did they meet, and what kind of agreements were made?

I loathe to use the word “boondoggle” and I would hate to think that these people spent our tax money without pre-arranged meetings and without a positive agenda for the trip.

If one is spending the taxpayer’s money, it must clearly benefit the community.

The job of elected officials and senior city staff is one of responsibility and accountability; it is not just a cool travel club.

That is why I await the report with great anticipation; I want to see what we have gained from the money they spent on our behalf.
