Letter: Here's weeping for a willow

This long standing willow tree’s rotten core has been deemed a hazard by arborists and will be removed, according to city officials.

Dear Editor,

Re: “Weeping willow’s core is rotten: City,” Letters, May 18; “Tree loss becoming an all too familiar story,” Letters, May 4.

A number of months ago, I wrote a letter regarding the magnificent Willow tree at 8380 Seafair Drive, hoping that my campaign may save this beautiful tree. Apparently not!  I have just been informed that the city will be removing this tree, once again caving in to a developer’s wishes.

I am hoping that when the “48 hour removal” notice is put on the tree (very soon) more citizens will make their wishes known. I have done everything I can think of to save this wonderful tree. Perhaps there is something more? It is such a crime to destroy this tree!!
